only 954 has this wired noise
ORIGINAL: BROOKLYN
I just threw some brisk plugs in...i noticed that there was a coil pack that wasnt pushed all the way down on one of the plugs. After switching out the plugs the bike ran so much quieter and smoother.if your tick is loud push down on your plug wires.if that doesnt help you may need new plugs.im not even bull****ting you guys, seems like a different bike.

no way!!! that two simple to be it!!!! i was expecting some one to tell me :take the whole motor apart and replace cameshaft or pistons...but no it ends up being something retard as sparkplugs...interesting ill try to do that on saturday, ill post what happens
^^^I had twenty one thou on my plugs on top ont that it had a loose plug wire.i just had gotten use to the tick, it didnt help that everyone was saying it was normal so I never thought twice about it.The only reason I changed them is It started running warmer than usual and figured it was time for a tune up
i was changing my air filter so idecide tocheck out myplugs, they wore in really good conditionso i just cleaned them with the metal brushand thats about it, i hade to take off the wires so i made sure that they are not loose but yea...its just normalfor 954'sto make the wired noise...its all good
The tick is due to the short skirt on the piston, typical of a race motor. A long skirted piston will stay square will the cylinder and thus "be quiet" in it's stroke.... A race motor with short skirts and high compression will "tick" unless at high load.... its slight piston deflection in thebottom of thestroke.... nothing to worry about unless you hear it louder under load... I learned this leason after switching from a two stroke dirt bike to a factory race CRF 450... head it straight froma factoryhonda mech.
