I had heard that our filter are very close to the exhaust pipes and that some wrenches will not work..... is this true ?

I prefer to use the correct tool, but if I don't have a filter wrench that will fit I have driven a screwdriver through the old filter to get enough leverage to unscrew it. (I have no idea why someone would put a filter on so tight that it can be removed by hand.)
