from what I gather from the Clymer manual you stand the bike up and check it with the dipstick threaded in.?.?. Doesn't say exactly but prom the pictures and the way the text reads that is what is implied. Hope this helps.

 

Actually, my 1987 CBR1000 had a center stand.
