525 is the stock chain size. If you go lower to say a 520, you`ll get a little more in the low end and diffrent sprockets are needed.

you won't notice much between 525 and 520!?!?!!?!

yea no matter how hard you beat on them...they shouldn't snap unless you buy crap chain or install improperly...

i'd bust a DID 525 or 530, if you're worrieda obut breaking them...as far as busa chain...there's not such thing...you put whatever you want on that thing...it's still a 530 chain...

I am ready for a new chain as well. I have about 12,000 miles on the current one, and it's getting close to the new chain mark on the adjustment blocks. My question is 525s are stock, who make the strongest chains in the stock configuration? Is there a stronger set up I should consider as I am going to change sprockets as well (520-530)? And who makes the gold chains, I like the look of those? Vortex sprockets would seem the likely choice. Stick with the steel or go with aluminum? I commute on my bike every day to work, but also go on twisty canyon trips at least once a month.

chain color...many companies make them...almost all actually.

chain brand...DID x-ring!!!

stick with 525 chain and 525 sprockets. 520 will wear out a bit faster and you reall won't feel much of a difference from 525.

as far as sprockets...go with steel...aluminum is ok but if you're commuting and riding hard, will wear out too quickly.
brandwise, most are pretty good...just don't go with the el cheapo deal of the week ones.
