Default Camchain service life?

Taking the head off of my RRN and was thinking of changing the camchain. But ......... do I need to? Apart from being a good idea as the head is off it isn't causing a problem and I haven't seen any information anywhere as to whether the camchain has a 'service life'. Has anyone? Is it recommended (by Honda) to replace them after a certain mileage? (The one in the engine has about 40K miles on it).

The CCT is new and I'll check the tensioner blades when I get them out but the chain ...?? Any information appreciated.

Hi Dave,

There is not a service life. There are people on this site who have had their clutches last over 200K miles, much less a cam chain. I don't think I'd give it a second thought unless it was blatantly obvious that something was wrong with it.

Good to know. As I hadn't found any reference at all to a service life in my manuals or online I assumed that was the case. It does seem sound so that's one more expense I can forget then!

Thanks!

So I'm curious what prompted the head removal? Valves, gaskets, or just filling up this Covid lockdown time with something to do?

https://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-900rr...92-rrn-161265/ ... so all of the above really ... And it needs a little TLC seen as how it's nearly 30 years old ...

OK, yes I saw the thread and didn't put the two together. Well it sounds like a fun task anyway as long as not your primary mode of transport.
