Default Smoking engine - '92 RRN

Right. Had the bike for "a while" and have decide that I need to sort some things out. Especially as most of can't get out and about too much at the moment - though I've been working all the way through as I work in a supermarket. Got a '92 Blade (we got them early in '92 in the UK) which has done about 50K miles and many moons ago was blueprinted/bored to about 925cc (largest 918 overbore - on an 893cc engine)/tuned to give 130bhp at the rear wheel. However, it tends to smoke a little when started (though not too sure about when being ridden). I want to sort this and wondered if there was anything to check first, a 'weak' point with the engines or something? Obviously I'll (eventually) do compression checks etc but wondered if there was anything obvious to check first before I pulled the head and/or engine (I've no problems with that BTW)?

Oh, and regularly serviced etc etc. No memorable point at which I noticed the smoke, just after the 'tune' (no issues with that BTW - it was done by Tony Scott - look up his name in relation to engine blueprinting and BSB etc ...) was done. Maybe I ran the engine in too 'gently' and the bores need a hone and new rings? Questions questions .......

Hi Dave, rings or valves would be my first guess or something completely random such as small oil leak getting onto the exhaust and burning but not enough to notice...

The first thing to do is to identify what is burning to cause the smoke. What color is it? Does the smoke go away?

Should have said, sorry. It's white, so oil. Not checked when riding (difficult to see behind me ... :-) ) but it is still there when I stop.

White usually means coolant. Does it have a "sweet" odor to it?

I say white, but whitish/greyish/depends-on-the-background-colour-ish ...... basically not much of it to really say. No odour and the coolant level never seems to drop, but you could be onto something. Me thinks the head has to come off anyway and I'll go from there .... It'll give me something to do anyhow ............. 🏍🏍😁
