stock exhaust shield
hey guys, i was wondering if i can take off the exhaust shield? i have seen people without the shield with an aftermarket exhaust, but i want to keep the stock exhaust. i want to put on a fender eliminator with the stock exaust without the ugly heat shield. can i do this or will it melt plastic??? thank you.
You can coat the underside of the tail section w/ Cool it brand heat tape. Comes in 2" wide rolls. Looks like aluminum foil w/sticky tape on one side. Take the can and sheild off and cover the plastic w/ one good solid layer of the tape and you should have no problems w/melting. Have heard of some doing multiple layers, but I don't think it does much more than 1 layer. Just make sure you clean the plastic real well before applying the tape, so it sticks.
yeha i have no heatshield on my yoshi pipe, but with the stock exhaust im pretty sure they run alot hotter. are you gunno take off both the one under the seat and the one for the midpipe?
I took off my stock exhaust shield and put some heat reflective tape on the underside of my tail section and it works great, nothing has even come close to melting or anything like that and I can hardly feel any more heat from the seat, it looks way better than stock too, I'd say go for it but use some sort of heat shielding material to save the plastics!
i took mine off and put a fender eliminator on...u can see my license plate its really bright from the flash, but its there under the pipe, took the shields off and didnt put any tape...doesnt get over heated to melt anything just dont touch it... check it out
