Default Exhaust heat shield questions

Ive already switched my stock exhaust to an aftermarket exhaust (erion). Anyways one of my buddies insist that I should have put the exhaust shield back on (the one thats under the passenger seat). He says that I will burn up the undertray. I did put the one exhaust shield back on by the right leg. I even put exhaust wrap around the midpipe to help reduce the heat. Ive notice other RR around were I live that havent put the shield back after they replaced the stock exhaust. So should I be worried about burning the undertray?

I asked this same question about a year ago when i installed my aftermarket exaust. All the responses i got said i wouldnt have a problem, but if i wanted i could go and buy some of that shiney reflective tape (used for duct work. any hardware store should carry it) and line the undertail and any other parts of the bike that maybe in close contact of the exhaust.
For peace of mind thats what i ended up doing, and i've had no problems so far...
