Default Heat shield for CF Two Bros undertail exhaust?

06 CBR... with undertail exhaust.

I just put on the carbon fiber M-2 Two Brothers exhaust bolt-on. In the directions sent with the unit, it has you keeping the heat shields on.. however the exhaust in the pictures is the stainless steel not my carbon fiber.

I was wondering if anyone had issues NOT putting the undertail heat shield back on... any melting to plastic, damage to electrical components, etc.

Or even better if you had no issues and have been running it for some time.

I did put the side heat shield back on to keep my leg from frying.

I'd prefer not to put the top "under tail" heat shield back on, it looks like crap, but I would if it were unsafe for my bike.

Please help!!!

FYI-2006 CBR 600RR

you might be able to find some of that adhesive insulation from a parts place. i used to have a carbon fiber pipe, and didn't heat up too bad.

I have an aftermarket exhaust as well and i have the sticky heat shield stuff that i am using which works great. My questions is i am trying to just install the side plastic peace because i hate the look of just the pipe showing. Any ideas how to install this. I have looked and cant find posts. I was told i have to install the inner smaller heat shield. Is this true and will i be able to mount that smaller heat shield without using the stock big heat shield. I thought i needed to use that to mount the smaller one?

Default Plastic leg thing

The plastic piece you are talking about that is kind of a shield off your right leg.. only has 1 mounting bolt if I remember correctly.. that 1 bolt goes into the "lower" or "smaller" heat shield. You can just have the lower shield mounted without the bigger one that sticks out the back... thats what I'm rolling with right now, or ever since this original post.

UPDATE: for anyone interested in my original post... I went without the upper heat shield for some time now with no adverse effects. Probably 4k miles.

I think that is what you were trying to find the answer for. Hope this helped. Good luck.

Yep i appreciate the help. Is there a certain way the lower heat shield mounts? Are there clamps or anything because i dont see anything on the actual pipe that has screws and what not for it to hold.

Default Idk

Sorry I don't remember off hand.... I do think it wasn't too dificult. I checked a website with drawings... lookes like there are 2 bolts to both the plastic piece and the lower heat shield... follow the link.

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmot...2058#sch413577

hope you can read these type of diagrams. I use this website all the time when I go to put stuff back together...lol. Its a lot easier to take stuff appart.

The lower heat shield deffinatly does not mount to the stock pipe... if that were the case then I couldn't be using it.

i was having the same question when installing the cf 2 bros in my 07 600rr

i just modified the upper heat shield, ie, lopped off the part around the actual carbon fiber part and installed the other section. looks kinda rugged cuz i did it with... cave man tools

but i figured it'd give me a good look, without the entire shield, and proper protection from the exhaust that actually gets warm
