The K&N ads say a million miles... so it's very reusable. You have to buy a cleaning kit for under $15 at any parts store (AutoZone, Pep Boys and so on). I change my filter with every oil change.... clean oil + dirty filter = dirty oil. The air filter is just time consuming, make sure you track where each bolt goes back too.... they are easy to mix up. But you can do it, the part of the fun. I didn't loose any fuel economy and you can hear a difference with the filter change. The engine sounds a bit louder at higher rpm's as I run down the interstate. As for ponies.... the bike already very responsive so I can't say for sure. I feel that it does, but it could be in my head. The throttle is a little more responsive. Quicker revs.

yep, 530 miles now....changed the oil and filter last night...what a pain in the ***...haha..I think I stripped just about every screw on the bottom - the ones that keep the two lowers together..haha...zipties are awesome!!

And the plugs for the side mounts kept coming out...oh well. I used to race to...I'm used to it. I bought it to ride, not to look good. It's not a trophy for me....

I'm putting it on the track on Monday....bad idea? VIR north course - probably just roll with the intermediate group since it's been about 2 years since I've been on a track and I won't have time to get it wired up.....

I'm wondering if I should put race tires on it. Probably - I'll end up riding at race pace and cooking the street tires...haha...

Thoughts?

Taking your bike to the track is never a bad idea, you get used to your bike more and what you learn can be put to use on the road. Tyres are a personal choice you say you`ve raced before so if thats the case you`ll know how fast you will probably get upto. I personally change the tyres when i go on the track. Just my 2p`s worth.

Well, I'm definitely going race tyres....I know I'll melt these if I don't....it'll take me about 3 laps and I'll be pretty much up to pace...not full on but close enough to be pushing the front....

I'll let you know how it goes....wish I had a steering damper though...it tends to get a little edgy coming out of corners but...

I don't know your skill level, but I highly doubt you'll "melt" your DOT street tires and unless you don't mind tossing money away, race tires probably aren't necessary...what brand and model tires are on your bike right now?

race tires probably aren't necessary
They are for me thats all i said and by changin tyres i mean, i use metzler racetec tyres which are still street legal, but a hell of a lot better than the BT-014`s that i use on the street. And i have tested them to there limits.

I got D208's on there now. But the Street compound isn't as hard - I'm presuming they'll get greasy. I don't know. I used to race expert but it's been 2 years since I've been on the track. Started on a YZF750, then went to an R6, then to a TZ125, then an SV650, now this. Everything before this was a pure race bike....never really rode much street. I don't know. They might be ok, but I don't want to risk it....and we're doing VIR full course which is pretty fast.

But I am very very hard on the brakes....probably my signature move....I delaminated a front tire on my TZ125....the tire guys never saw anyone do that on a 125...just the bigger bikes...haha...

I'll probably be at 80% race pace by the second session....

thoughts?

Well, I got it out on the track - it didn't handle as good as any of my other racebikes...but most of that was probably because it was cold and I had street tires...just couldn't get them to warm up - either that or the track was just too cold. I lowsided, then had to put on a different brake lever which wasn't right and ended up getting stuck in the master cylinder coming out of turn 2 at VIR...which sucked. I had a to a dead stop wheelie to get it off the track and ended up plopping it over in the wet grass when I laid it down (front wheel still locked). I got back out there though and had a few decent laps....can't wait for it to get warm again...but the ride height definitely needs to be adjusted.....but other than that I was pretty please....didn't get frame sliders (the decision to go to the track was last minute) which I'm regreting....and that beautiful black bodywork is all scuffed and they had to use a crow bar through my front wheel to pick it up to get on the crash truck...and cracked my fender and scratched my rims....I was taking off my helmet and they started doing that and by the time I was like "ah, please don't..." they had already screwed it up....********....

Anyway, at least I'm in one piece...haha...

Anyone know somewhere to get a decent deal on aftermarket bodywork/framesliders, etc?
