Default 6000 miles in 3 months, advice on oil change intervals

hi there i bought my 5th cbr 600rr 11 or 12 ??? with 700 miles on the clock about 3 months ago and must admit Ive been totally addicted,Im currently on my 3rd rear Tyre and 2nd front,Im trying Metzeler k3 raceteks as Im told they withstand the heat a bit better, any way im wondering if anyone else on here is doing as much miles as this in a short space of time? and how often the oil needs changing? i used to just change oil on previous bikes once a year or 4000 miles,so iv kind of left it a bit long on this one! been enjoying it too much lol Im riding quite hard but im not a track racer by any means! i looked at owners manual and it tells me 8000 miles service intervals, and i reckon i have left it far too long already,Im commuting the bike about 80 miles a week and normally do about anything up to about 300 mile blast at weekend, maybe more! so there's no short journeys involved,if anyone can advise me on oil intervals for this it would be much appreciated and also if Im likely to have done any sort of engine damage ?

many thanks in advance.

3000 miles or less if you can afford it. Honda only indicates those long service intervals to appease the EPA, basically to make less "waste". You're pretty much rubbing liquid sand paper over your cylinder walls right now. Honda motors are strong and durable, so it's not very likely you've done any serious damage.

On my street bike I change my oil when it starts to look too dirty through the sight glass, which is around the 2000-3000 mark. On my track bike I change my oil every 300-400 miles. Sounds like you love that bike, get on that maintenance!

thanks for the reply! my oil level was quite low yesterday and took a liter to get the level right.i wont be making that mistake again, from now on im just gonna use the color as a guide. thanks again for advice,i only wish honda was a bit more honest with their service schedules.

Oil is cheap, motors are expensive.

On bikes my rule is 3k regular oil and 4k with synthetic.
