New 05 with 447 miles...need advice on break in
This is the newest bike I've ever owned. It is an 05 600RR with 447 miles on it. What do I need to do...just take it to the shop and get it serviced? Are they going to do the valves or just change the oil?.
I want to make sure they use the regular (no moly) honda oil...but they are a yamasuzi dealer....is this a problem? Or will they have ok stuff for this one oil change (until I can get some myself and do my own oil changes).
How many more miles and what kind of protocol should I be under...varying speed....blahblahblah..if someone could hook me up with a little info, that would be great.
He's an older guy I'm getting it from..said it hasn't been over 9K rpm which I believe...still has the chalk on the tires....and I got it for 7500. Was this a decent deal?
Thanks guys...looking forward to owning this thing. Seems like a nice bike....(I'm actually getting ready to meet the guy to pick it up...

Congrats on the bike and welcome to the board!
You should be o.k. letting the Yamisuzi dudes change the oil -- it's just a ripoff though. Ride the bike another 100miles then go get a filter and oil and do it yourself. As far as breakin procedure the engine should be broken in by now. I just wouldn't open it up until I changed the oil.

Like Chainstretcher said, you about 150 miles until your service is due. Get the oil and filter and do it yourself. Do you have the owners manual? It list all the maintenance they should do, when I starting asking question to see how my bike was doing, I could tell they didn't do anything except change the oil. Or at least I hope they changed the oil. Your schedule after that is at 4000 and every 4000 after that. If you believe the guy was easy on it, change the oil and have fun. Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the family here, look forward to hearing your stories. We share our mistakes here so can learn from them, check out the posting I started a few days ago https://cbrforum.com/m_29365/tm.htm .
yes. all i did was change my oil as well. they wanted to charge a lot for the 600 mile service. all they do is change your oil and make sure the bolts are not loose and other minor stupid stuff... make sure your clutch handle is adjusted right, make sure all your electronics are working, tire pressure, bla bla. its more like a safety inspection. you really don't need it. just change your oil at 600 miles and have fun from there. if you don't have a manual by the time you change your oil, here's a tip. that oil filter may be a pain to take out. I popped the coolant overflow tank out and pulled the filter out from there... i couldn't fit it through the gap in the exhuast manifold.
thanks guys....well, I got it and rode it a little - put about 20 miles on it...was sitting at a stop light for about 4-5 minutes (turn lane and couldn't trip the sensor because no one was behind me) - and I saw that the temp got up to 220F. I wasn't there more than 6 minutes I think....of course it cooled down once I started riding but....the fan kicked on about 218 or so...so I think it's running ok but is this normal? I'm freaking out because I just blew the bank on this bike and feel like it might have f'ed something up today....
Please assure me everything is ok.....but if not, let me know.
thanks guys. Can't wait to open it up.....I can change the oil. I was thinking they were going to do a valve adjustment...If not, then I'll just change it myself....thanks for the tips.
Looking forward to being on this board.
Thanks again.

You're fine -- the bike's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Worst idea any engineer ever had was to put a digital gauge for the thermostat -- just freaks people out when they see how hot these things operate.
Thanks! Yeah, I have been freaking out all day over that. What a relief. Whew. I hope you're right...haha...
No, that is excellent to hear. Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it. So, you don't think it'll need a valve adjustment or anything for the 600 mile service? Where can I get the good Honda Oil/filter???? Any place online that has good deals?
Thanks again

So, why so hot on the idle - why doesn't the fan kick on sooner? ARe you sure it's not f'ing up the motor by getting that hot?
I hope not. It was a lot cooler while I was moving....

Your temp is fine. The fan kick on at 219 and the thermostat opens between 176 and 183F. Valve adjustment is at 16,000 mile mark... so you have some time not to worry about it. And sense you have 100 miles left before your oil change, just order you filter. I bought a Honda filter from a dealer for a little over $13. You can order the K&N oil filter for about the same price ( http://shop.knfilters.com/KNShop/Sea...plication.aspx) The filter is a little bit of a pain to remove. Lots of plastic and to make it easy, the coolant overflow should be removed. If you ever decide to change out the air filter.... that's another treat. Fuel tank cover, seat, both inner covers, remove bolts from mid fairing, ECM (engine control module) and then you can see all of the bolts that hold you air box cover on. You asked if 7500 was a good price, it is. Your bike is basically new and I paid 9300 out the door for mine.
Thanks!! I needed that reassurance.
Ok, next question. Is the K&N oil filter reusable or should you trash it like the rest?
Do you change the filter at every oil change or just ever other?
Let me know.
I might go ahead and get the air filter...might add a few ponies...is it really a pain...sounds like it...
Oh well. I'll learn I guess.
Thanks guys.
