If you do have to cut... and you don't feel comfortable, either get someone you trust to do it for you, or pay the money. It sucks... but... well, unless you want to cut yoru fairings yourself, that's all the choices you've got.

If you have little "brackets" that came with the sliders... the kind that let you relocate the slider, aka, making them no-cuts? Then $180 is rediculous. Man up and put those things on... it's not hard. I did a write-up for an 07 with no-cuts.

Haha, I said "Man Up" if they didn't require cutting.

I know I'm no fan of cutting anything on my bike, so I don't blame anyone for having someone else cut the fairings! Something about a jagged drillbit biting into hundreds of dollars worth of factory plastics... [:'(]

from what ive seen, no-cuts cause more damage than the fall did, 2 different times ive seen no-cuts either bend or break and when they do,they bend into the case cover(actualy punctured the case one time)and the fairing still got rash,so now youve got a rashed bike bleeding oil all over.buy the cut sliders and do the laser install, simple and perfect cut youll be glad you did, and vortexsliders seem to hold up best our stunt bike has em and needless to say its been down a couple times! haha believe me it took me a month to talk myself intodrilling into my fairingName: enginecasecovers.jpg

heres what i did.

do you know someone who has the same year rr with the slider holes??

if so take his plastic and turn it so you looking on the inside...
now, take a large peice of cardboard and cut it to fit perfectly on the insede lining of the fairing.

next, outline the hole on the cardboard (this is on the outside of the fairing) this is your guild

now, cut that circle out.. check it twice to make sure you got it right.. check it twice, always nice.

now put the cardboard on to your fairing ( inside like the other) and outline the circle with a pen onto the fairing. twice is nice, remember. now use a measuring tape to find the exact center (off a milimeter never hurt anyone) and mark the center

then take a point pen (not sure what its called... a clicky pen that you click and it makes holes for you) or something sharp and dig out that center just enough for the bit to stay in it.

next cut the B!tch and it should work. i have done this same thing twice and everytime it looks better than teh one that my friend got done at a shop. his has gaping holes around the slider...mine fit exactly.

of course this takes growing a pair but you said you were willing to do that lol. so if you try it, let me know

yea I heard about the no cuts from all the bike shops i went to. They said a lot of times the sliders mess up the bike more than without the sliders. So im staying away from those. BTW thanks for the tips skitz, i'll keep that in mind.
