Actually, he says "If you have the room, I recommend the longer filters." I just made the mistake of not determining ahead of time if I had the room for the longer filter. Based on what he publishes, it would appear that his recommendations are based on threads, psi of pressure to activate the by-pass valve, the anti-drain back valve, gasket size, quantity and quality of filter media, etc.

Under the heading of inquiring minds would love to know, are you able to share with us the oil analytical service reports for the Purolator motorcycle specific "ML" filter and/or the Purolator non-motorcycle specific filters?

Thanks.

Default Information from purolator regarding ml (motorcycle) & pl (vehicle) oil filters

Here is a correspondence exchange I just had with Purolator:

Sent: Monday, April 16, 2012 6:39 AM
To: Murray James (AA-FI/MKT1-NA)
Subject: INQUIRY REGARDING ML & PL FILTERS

Dear Mr. Murray

The Purolator website states at: PowerSports Filters :

"If you're thinking you want to install a PureONE oil filter on your bike, please think again. PureONE oil filters are designed for vehicles, not bikes. Because of PureONE's high efficiency, the motorcycle oil pump may not be able to handle the pressure. The Purolator motorcycle filter line is designed to meet the specific needs of a bike; therefore we highly recommend the use of a Purolator ML filter over a PureONE oil filter."

...

Regarding your motorcycle ML16817 filter, what is the oil pump pressure range it is designed to handle? Regarding your “vehicle” oil filter PL14612, what is the oil pump pressure range it is designed to handle?

I look forward to hearing from you.

RESPONSE:

Thank you for your inquiry.
Usually motorcycles oil filters are designed with lower Relief Valve Opening Pressure valves in their design per OE designs to support for lower Engine oil pump pressures. On the other hand, car oil filters have higher ratings and, if filters with high RV opening pressures are used (Like oil filters for other automotive / car applications) , the Motorcycle engines may get deprived of oil lubrication during start up or cold start conditions and otherwise also when RV should open to support lubrication and it does not due to high RV opening pressure settings , if car filters are used in motorcycle applications. Refer below for filter specifications.

Thank you,

James
