Default Help with Electrical problems please

This is my first bike.. It will not start from the switch. Nothing happens. Nothing.

I can jump start it but it backfires every so often.

Recently it cut out when I turned on the lights...

I assumed battery so got a new one, checked power was ok but still did not start after fitting.

I have removed the switch and tested it and the kill switch with a multimeter and seems ok.

The start relay does not click when pressing the starter button bit I could start it when shorting the terminals.

I have a data tag system. I am assuming that this is not the fault.

I suspect starter relay is at fault but could that cause backfires?

Advice appreciated.

You could open it up remove the internal battery and then disconnect it from the battery terminals.
