Question **please help** high idle problems and running problems

I just bought a 98 cbr600f3 today and I'm having a couple issues, first off it idles really high at like 4k or 5k rpm. the other thing is when you ride it if you get on the gas anywhere over a quarter turn it pretty much falls on its face but doesn't do it during idle. At idle i can rev it all the way up with no problems. I really need help with these problems i took the airbox lid off and there is no filter and it has a jardine exhaust on it. please someone help me with these problems i really want to ride this thing. thanks.

Hi Drew,
It's an old thread, so I'm not sure if the OP will respond, but this type of problem is common with bikes that have been sitting for a while. I'd give the carbs a good clean, ensuring that each of the jets is unclogged (a bristle from a wire brush or a guitar string works well) along with a good soak in carb cleaner. Once they're back together, ensure smooth operation of throttle and choke cables. Use fresh gas to get it running, then set idle

Your manual should spell out most of those procedures. Feel free to start a thread if you get stuck

Hope that helps
