Main 30 amp fuse......
This bike has never had me stumped before...Not that I have had much time to play, but, I keep popping the main 30 amp.It did it to me about 2 years ago and at that time it had melted a regulator/rectifier. So, I assumed without diagnostics...WRONG. So then I checked the stator, wiring, grounds all seem ok. stator not shorted to groun, all legs have good continuety. No apparent shorts in wiring(soldered in new wiring with last resistor,2 years ago)wiggled and no popping, all grounds clean/tight. all cnnectors corrosion free. Battery appears to hold good charge and ALWAYS starts the bike right up. This only happens over 8k RPMs or so and only while riding under a load(uphill heavy throttle), has anyone seen this? I will keep up witht he diag in the mean time. Thanks.
beleive it or not....I replaced the spark plug wires (due to mileage,22000, and a tip from a friend who had it happen once) and it has been fine all weekend.(knock on wood)350+miles and no fuses needed. huh. I cannot begin to rationalize how the extra resistance of degraded wires could possably blow the main fuse, but, due to lack of other repairs this does seem to be the cause. I guess this hasn't happened to many other people huh? OEM wire set is like $180.00, but worth it. very nice new wires. Just for info, may not be what it seems.I could have swore it would be an electrical issue....well, thanks for lettin' me tell my story anyway, hopefully it will help someone else......SPARK PLUG WIRES....I CAN'T BELEIVE IT.Still don't really beleive it, I carry fuses anyway, but haven't needed them, luckily.... Later.
