ignition coil problem or fuel pump?
Hi all, so after reading about some of other people's problems like mine (bike bogging down like it's out of gas at mid-range rpms/cruising speeds) and noticing my fuel pump was removed, I'm starting to think that my problem is either related to the ignition coil (someone in town suggested to me).
Obviously, I have to wonder about the fuel pump part, but the guy who removed it said it would run fine without it and it sounds from other's experiences here too, that although performance will not be optimal w/o a FP, it should at least work (not die on me on the freeway, for instance).
Does this sound like it's caused by the ignition coils (how to check?) or lack of fuel pump... or something else?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I personally haven't really modded much on the bike. However the bike has had at least 2 other previous owners and now has 33k mi.
Mods:
Exhaust: Yoshimura stainless slip-on (was there)
Fender Eliminator: Kit from ebay (worst mod ever, but probably not related).
Plugs: When i first changed the plugs, I noticed that the plugs we bought (recommended by Honda) were a bit different than the plugs we pulled out of the bike from the prev. owner
(I believe theirs were made for slightly hotter? conditions, but they could have been the opposite; (hotter plugs) but I can't remember totally. It was about 2 yrs ago.
I didn't really notice any difference at the time... was not having problems then.
BTW, I live in Minnesota, and it gets really hot sometimes (90s-100+s) in the summer but obviously the beginning and end of season is another story altogether!

Check out these posts, they have a lot of relevant info. Gives you a starting concept on how it all works, anyway. The coils are a possibility, but check all of the electrical
system, to be sure. Smokin Jeff mentioned gas tank venting, good call. You might
check that as well.
Hope this all helps, Ern
