RE: getting to the engine temp sensor
I ordered mine from the local Honda shop and they told me it would be a few weeks because of backorder. After putting up with their crap for other stuff, then this, I'm never going back there again. I went to a local, beat up run down shop and he ordered one from (guess where) the same service center the Honda shop orders from. I got it the next day. Shop around, certain people have different priorities. So just out of curiosity, I went to the local Suzuki dealer (he says he can get parts for anything) and low and behold, what's sitting on the shelf in the back? You guessed it. Our local Honda shop sucks. Sorry had to vent. Bottom line is shop around if you need it quickly. Someone's got one.

hmmm....
maybe there is less stuff in the way on a 97, compared to a 95. There is no way a simple extension will get to the sensor. A choke cable bracket nut and frame weld are in the way. I had to remove the air box, then loosen the choke cable bracket, then I finally was able to wiggle and shove a long socket onto the sensor. My short sockets were about 1/8" too short to grab the sensor. Then, of course, after getting to it finally, it snapped off in the block. It;s not going to leak, but looks like I may have to pull more stuff out of the way to tap and thread it.
If you pull the thermostat out can you see the tip of the sensor in there? Maybe this winter I can get something in there to help remove it, or at the very least, have an easy way to remove the shavings from a tap job.
