Hmm, when I had my stator cover off I don't remember seeing the staggered pattern like that, but I can't imagine the housing can fail since its just a metal dish of sorts. Have you tested the stator?

Another thing to look into is doing the GSXR regulator conversion. Do a search under the F3 section under GSXR regulator and you'll get a bunch of threads that explain what people have done in the past. Seems the F3 regulator is a weak point on our bike, granted they are over 10 years old something has to give.

Default Check with Electroport

First, did you check your stator with a multi-meter. you need to check the resistance between the three yellow wires. Spec is .1 to 1 ohm as you check wires A, B & C. If the resistance is out of spec the stator is toast.

Also check with the folks at www.electroport.com. These people build quality products backed with a solid warranty and good service. I just installed one of their regulator/rectifiers in my '98 and I couldn't be happier. They also build a stator that they claim is superior to the stock unit.

3 main components to the electrical system are battery,reg/rec and stator.. if 1 fails it puts stress on the others causing them to fail. if you just replaced the battery and it keeps draining its probably because your reg/rec is bad and if you reg/rec is bad chances are its caused by a bad stator. its a domino effect.

i had a 98 f3 that had the A-typical symptoms thought it was just the battery, replaced it no dice.. changed the stator and replaced the battery again (just for good measure.. warranty exchange) and it worked.. untill about 2 months later my battery died again and i changed the reg/rec and charged the battery and it worked great

You can have a stator that the resistance is in specs but not putting volts out. My blackbird stator did just that. Tested the resistance at least 10 times all within specs. So I purchased a R/R. Well got the R/R was about install it and for some reason decided to test the voltage coming from the stator. At 5k it should put out 50 volts AC on all 3 yellow wire. 50v 15v 50v. Made an harness to test the bird r/r on the f3 and its good.

The stator is an electromagnet. It has coiled iiron plates that spin around the center, and react with magnetic plates in the housing. That staggered pattern shows where the plates are. For something to be attracted to them like that, it'd have to be made of iron. Could just be iron dust form normal wear and tear of the assembly.

Use this guide to test your electrical system as a whole, and pinpoint the failed component:

In general, the Honda R\R's suck for all their bikes (almost all of them use the same one, even the cruisers). I swapped mine out for a Yamaha R6 one.
