Chain/sprocket and clutch question
I've got a 95 cbr 600 f3. I'm working on it and passing it down to my girlfriend for her first bike. She's rode it before and enjoyed it but I'm going over some things before I let her take it on the road fully. So the two things I'm looking at are putting a new chain out of it. Old one is barely out of spec but better safe than sorry with her on it. What brand of chain do you guys recommend? And should I swap the sprockets while I'm at it. On top of that chain size? Secondly, I wanted to put some softer springs in the clutch. Was going to use EBC springs. Should I swap the friction plates while doing so or will the current ones work with the new springs? And if I should swap the plates should I swap the steel plates too? Or just check them for burnt spots/warping. I saw the Barnett whole kit but not sure how stiff the springs are. Whats in it now makes even my hand cramp pulling the lever while riding. Thanks in advance!
Well everyone has opinions on chains just like oil and filters. I'm an EK Chain fan. Not as well known as DID and some others, but superior in design and technology. Colorful too. I would replace as a set, both the chain and sprockets as they usually wear together. Stay away from alloy sprockets unless you want to be replacing it soon. As for clutch changes, I'd think maybe looking at installing adjustable levers. Something that would allow her fingers to get a little bit better grip for better leverage. I don't have experience with alternate springs and plates so don't have an opinion either way on that. I'm sure others will chime in here in short order.
TW, welcome to the forum. A 600 is a lot of bike for a first bike. I hope she's taken a MSF class or equivalent. It's the knowledge you have that keeps ya safe.

Definitely change as a set, along with adjustable leavers you should also 'lube' the cable, you will be amazed at how much muck will come out of it.
I took the basic rider course whilst working in Texas a few years ago, definitely worth doing.
In the UK you have to take a basic riding course, then a more advanced road based course before even taking your test and getting your license! At that stage depending on your age you are limited to the power of the bike that you can have.
May seem a little over the top but on the very crowded UK roads experience / knowledge is literally a life saver.
I'm sure she will love, I really did like my F3
Thanks guys, the cable is new but I can try to shoot some lube in there. As fair as the chains and sprockets go. Do you guys know the sizing of them? And what teeth i should run front and back in your opinion.
Front is 15T and 43T in the back for stock. Chains will typically come in 120 link lengths. Then you cut to size with a chain breaker and then use a riveting tool to put the master link on.
the chains, are they 520, 525, or 530?
