Started breaking her down again to try to get it running. Bought a whole harness from a member on this forum. Ordered throttle cables and a new throttle tube since mine is pretty bad.

Waiting for some warm weather here but hopefully this week I'll be putting on new throttle cables, the push snapped, new brake pads, new rear blinkers and a nice aftermarket stainless chain guard so I can pass inspection. This spring will be my first time registering it in a state that requires inspection. Hopefully I don't get any shat from them.

Woohoo!!

You know, I LOVE rebuilding engines, I used to do it so often, and I just really enjoy it - kind of theraputic I think.
I haven't had the need to rebuild a motor in a really long time, but I'm anxious for when I have to on the race bike, so I can punch that baby out, put in some hotter cams, lighten the crank a smidge, install some lighter, polished rods (if they're even available for this lump), etc.

Got some new candy for my street fighter project. Don't worry, my friends, I am doing everything so that it will be fully reversible. Hence the second tank, petcock and so on. Waiting for a new gauge, new ignition and new lid to the tank.

First I was going to sand the tank down to get that lovely brushed metal-look, but when I saw the deep red metallic and black I kind of changed my mind. It will be pretty bad *** looking with this tank on too, I think. Will have to paint the rims though. Any suggestions of a fast, easy and cheap way to do this?

Original state for reference:

What does powdercoating cost there? They have to be blasted before though so that`ll add to the price.

if you want to use projector lamps instead, I got a few spares, gimme a PM and they`re yours.

Fast, easy, and cheap painting will equal fast and easy deterioration of the new finish... you can definitely still paint 'em yourself, but the more work you put into it, i.e. prepping, using good quality finishes, etc., the better it will look, for longer.

I'm with Mattson... powder-coating is the way to go with rims.

With both Mattson and JNS leaning towards powder-coating I guess I have no choice. The hunt for a good powdercoater has begun. Is it that hard to do yourself if you have powder coating-gun and an oven to spare?

Not really, just show me a domestic oven big enough to fit a rim

One option to look for is Cerakote (or other similar products). It`s a kind of ceramic paint that can withstand immense heat and creates a surface like on a tooth or a glazed coffee cup. Brake dust cannot cling on to it. The only problem is very few companies do it.
