HELP - CCT or not CCT noise???
'93 F2 with 52,000 miles. Starts ok and quiet.
After 20-30 miles when I slow to town speed there's a noise from the motor. It basically sounds rough like a diesel engine, tappity, rattley. There is also an extrarattly vibration between 2-4000 revs. Sometimes the noise starts after a 20-30 miles, sometimes it only starts when restarting from warm (like after filling up) However, sometimes after a longer run the noise stops completely.
Is this typical of noisy CCT? Does it just need adjustment? I have a receipt from a previous owner that the CCT (manual I think)and the cam chain were replaced about two years ago (about 20,000 miles ago)
Other than the noise the bike runs superbly with no noise or power loss at higher revs.

RE: HELP - CCT or not CCT noise???
It sounds like a CCT to me. I just replaced my automatic one with a manual and it handled all noise. But if you already have a manual one you might just need to adjust it. It could of backed out some off the cam chain from just normal engine vibrations.
If it is manual:
1.turn on your bike and back out the main bolt of the CCT that puts tension on the chain
2. slowly and tighten the bolt back in until the noise goes away then turn it about a half click more.
3. Tighten the nut to hold the bolt in place and you should be good to go.
