Coolant leaking
Had my bike for a week or so, and not completely sure where its leaking but have an idea. I think it is where the water pump goes into the engine. Whenever I turn the bike off coolant pours out. here is a picture. I take it come kind of seal is broken. What do I need to replace and how? and have anyone else replaced or dealt with this part? Kind of a newbie to this so thanks for ANY input! This is an underview of the fuel pump.
If there's a leak around your water pump I'd check those hose clamps are tight and make sure the leak isn't where the radiator hoses join the pump. There's also a smaller tube with a clamp that goes from the pump to the clinder head. Make sure that's sealed tightly.
The larger of the bolts in your picture is the coolant drain bolt and it has a crush washer behind it that needs to be replaced each time the bolt is loosended. Possibly someone reused an old one and it just isn't sealing well.
If it's not that then there's a o-ring seal in the pump itself that may be the source of the leak and that would involve unbolting the pump and replacing the seal.
Do you have a copy of the manual? It's all relatively simple proceedures for this. The worst part is that you will have to drain the coolant out to do any work on the drain bolt or pump itself. Depending what coolant you have in there it's pretty toxic stuff so use appropriate care. If you do end up draining it then I reccomend using Engine Ice next time you fill it up. It does a great job of keeping my bike cool and it's way less harmful than regular coolant.
