They're soft for sure and sticky too so you don't have to grip hard like stockers.
Only issue is I'd put them about 1 mm shorter than stock so there's a little bigger
gap at the bar end weight ....... but for me eh ...... no big deal ....... when I saw
Dylans he said as much too
But in short yeah....... they are a big improvement ....... my old ones gave me
pins and needles in my palms in cooler weather !......... can't see that happening
with these ........ they're that much softer !
Hmm lesdixia ..........LOL ........ ..... to be taken to the "other" thread sometime soon.
Ciao for now

Well I never thought I would be one of "those guys" who let their bike sit for a year or two and let in fall into a state of disrepair. New kid, busy at work, yada yada....
Anyway I couldn't stand to see her deteriorate any longer so what started out as some maintenance turned into a restoration project ready to make the bike usable for the next 20 years. I've got 26k on the clock so it's got plenty of life left.
Rebuild clutch slave and master, new clutch line/washers
Rebuild front brake master and calipers, new pads, new brake lines/washers
Rebuild rear brake master and caliper, new pads, new brake lines/washers
New radiator hoses (even the small tube on the back of the cylinder) 2nd set of these
Clean carbs and sync
New valve cover gasket/washers
New tapered steering head bearings (all *****)
Installed new Wilbers rear shock with remote preload adjuster (awesome mod)
Installed new Wilbers front springs
New fork bushings/sliders/seals
Repaired crack developing in rear tail section (2nd tail section I've had that cracks on the back right)
Cleaned chain (it is near new)
Adjust balancer tension
New levers
New throttle cables/choke cable (one starting to fray)
New footpeg rubbers and washers
Upgraded bar switches to 93 model, this required a small amount of connector swapping on the hi/lo switch but the 90 model switches are discontinued. Also the 93 up have nice radiused buttons (90-91 were "flush") Downside is that the new switches have plastic nubs that engage the hole in the bar, the old switches had metal nubs that had less slop.
New battery
New fuel/vent lines
Sent tank to Rusteco in CA for rust cleaning (I have mixed reviews on this in the end the tank wasn't too bad, probably should have put the money toward a new tank)
Cam chain tensioner was done a few k a go. I did wheel bearings 5 yrs ago when I had the wheels powder coated.
Up next, new rubber (pilot road 2) and installing the telefix fork brace, may get a throttlemesiter too. Paint the centerstand.
The results! It's better than new! The suspension upgrades are awesome (the old stock shock was like riding a worn out sofa). Any questions on the work fire away. This forum is a great resource for these bikes.
Next project....prepping the XR650L for my Trans Americal Trail ride (4000 miles of dirt roads) in August. Scotland, AR to Port Orford, OR.
Thanks,
Andy
