I stayed with the PR 3 I wore the front tire out and still have 1/2 tread in the rear so it looks like 2-1

 

so Steve which tire changing stand ya get ?

 

Oil/filter change today. Oil looked great even after being 2000 km over my usual change at 5000 km. My stocks of oil have now gone. They did me for three years for several bikes. I had 40 x 1 litre bottles from an auction....lol. I'm back to paying $60 for 4 litres now

 

Speedo coupling hogged out so replaced it. That's the third or forth one in 58k miles.

 

Just ordered a set of 04 stick coils from a cbr 1000rr, and getting a crank case cover since mine has a small fracture in it and leaks on the stand.

 

Made some carb adjustments to the 87 and then
took her out for an adrenaline filled run - I got to
tell you the Mk2 carbs in the MK1 bike is something
amazing.

In 3 & 4th I could make the front come right up with
absolutely no effort and not even leaning back in the
seat - this setup is running like greased f'n
lightening - scarey in fact - but exhilarating all the same

Got back and in the garage it idled solid at 1150 rpm not
a hiccup - she's now running spot on

One mistake I made was not changing the valve stems out when I changed the tire. My back one is leaking now which means I will have to replace both of them, front and rear. I'm going to install metal ones this time.

 

Valve Stems : Maybe think about using the angled metal ones while you are
at it Steve way easier putting air in without the discs or sprockets getting in
the way

So today being a Holiday in the US I found myself up at the usual time
but no signs of life elsewhere in the house or neighborhood for that matter.

So I got to put in an hour out in the garage pulling the front of the 93 off
as I'm about to put a "new" set of gauges and a set of HIDS - now you don't
have to take the whole nose off to do this but it's easier and I want to attach
some mount plates on the fairing stays to hold the HID ballasts and facilitate
cooling them as they will be screwed down and will have thermal paste on the
backs of them, not that they get that hot but hey it'll help keep them cooler &
by default add longevity - maybe.

I must say taking the front off the Mk3 is a cinch about 25 mins incl the gauges
easier than the mk1 or mk2

 

Finally a day where some time was spent in the pursuit of CBR1000F happiness.

Met up oh so briefly with Naga_Thai and the delightful Mrs Naga_Thai in the Adelaide Hills where Naga kindly brought some '87 parts over from Melbourne for the registration needs of the Indiana import Hurricane. Alas Naga was late to get into Adelaide so after a discussion on the CCT/cam chain swap and its intricacies and what does and doesn't need to be done on the change-over, Naga was off! Beer next time perhaps.

Then in the afternoon Knackie came over for a catch-up and we ended up fettling his CBR1000F to adjust the levers to fit his large hoofs. Every time I see his bike I am in lust - it is in fantastic condition for a 20 year old bike.

Knackie's another one of those guys who makes the CBR1000F almost look like a mini-bike!
