Default Vibration, and noise from the front of the engine.

Ok folks, my 1991, which has 74000 mile on it now, has came up with a vibration, and noise. I feel the vibration at idle, and on up. The noise is not to bad. I replaced the CCT about 10000 miles ago. The noise is unlike the tensioner noise, and seems to be coming from the front of the engine. It does not affect the running of the bike. To me, it would seem that the cam chain is probably the culprit, but just wanting to know your thoughts, and if there is something else it could be. This old beast still runs great, and i am not ready to give it up.
Thanks

You could try to adjust the balancer. Here is the how-to LINK.
I haven't had the need to do it so I don't know if its the answer you are looking for.

I also noticed that you keep posting in the how-to section and your posts get moved to the main section where you should be posting.

I done the adjustment on the balance shaft with no results. Didn't seem to make any difference where it was turned. Just synched it in July, but i will check that. Seems strange that a synch should have anything to do with the noise up front though.

An engine out of sync will run rough and whip the cam chain making a rattling noise.
You may have developed a buzzing from some loose plastic, hard to tell without hearing it.
A few years ago I had a break pad rattling noise I located by applying the front break while riding and it would stop.

Odd that moving the balancer didn't make the engine rougher or smoother.

Hiya Bob.
If you managed to turn the balancer shaft all the way round, ie 360, with out effect, then its a sump off job. as replacing the rubber cushions is pretty straight forward. It takes longer to remove the ancillaries than do the rubbers. now done....what a smooth engine.

Well, i went back to the balance shaft, and tried adjusting. This time it stopped, and started to whine, so i turned it back until it quit. That helped a little, but was not the cause of the noise. I continued and rechecked my synch. Everything was ok there. I got out my old stethescope, and started going around the motor listening for noises. The most noise i had was from the starter motor, as though the chain was loose. Next was in the sump, but the noise was not like what i was looking for. The cam chain in the front of the engine had very little noise. Could that starter chain be the cause of the noise, and vibration?
