It seems my shifter return spring has failed me. I can change gears but have delicately use my tow to return the shift lever back to center. I'ts not a dance I care to do in traffic on the Interstate. According to the parts fiche I've seen, I need to go in from the lever side to access the spring itself.
Just a thought that’s all as I don’t kn (just got sit on by a seagull mid sentence...poxy things)...know your layout but I replaced my mates gsxr return spring by going in through the clutch cover to get at the mechanism.
I removed the basket etc, pulled the shift rod out from the lever side, installed fresh rod and then the new spring...good to go.
Best of luck mate.
Thanks for the reply Wes. The spring has been discontinued. I had to go to ebay. Found two NOS in Italy but they wouldn't ship to the states. One NOS in the UK but shipping was 58 quid. Found a used shift shaft with the spring out of Florida. The shaft itself is short, only a couple of inches long. I has a tang projecting from it that connects to the actual shift mechanism. .
Shipping costs between the UK and the US is a killer on deals both ways. Be nice if forum members could help each other out on some deals.
Always willing to help if I can.
6 months ago I ordered a guitar from Anderton's in Guildford-Surrey and it shipped to me for 18.99 pounds, but they ship all over world so maybe they have a deal with DHL

Although under strict agreements. First of all: at your own risk, because I don't know what american import rules are. To reasure: I will be 100% transparent about every procedure in europe and the costs of shipping.
If you need help sent me a pm.

Great idea Chris. 10 years ago or so, that was the norm. If we can collectively keep that alive it would be great. I myself, am starting to move away from these bikes just because of the dearth of parts. The Hurricane chapter was and still could be a good group to share tech and make friends. Keep it alive.
