Noise...?

Noise...?
Hi, I just recently bought a CBR1000F and have noticed a noise I think associated with gears. Basically when I change gear there is a whirring noise that I can only liken to the noise you get from a car when the clutch is going. 1st gear is quite a clunk, but maybe thats normal. All the gears work fine no slippage, but when I change up or down gear, the whirring noise reverberates almost like a plate. I thought it might have been the chain but that seems alright.
I've booked it into a garage next week so no doubt they'll get to the bottom of it but if anyone has had this kind of noise and might no what it is, it would be very much appreciated.
Cheers!

RE: Noise...?
I'm no expert and I've only had my 90 cbrkf for six weeks but.... The big clunk to engage first gear is well documented and nothing to worry about. The whirring noise .... do you mean that the whirring noise persists as you go up the gears - or that the whirring occurs during gear changes only? My bike has a whirring noise in 5 and 6 which I take, without checking further, to be a worn bearing on the gear train component for those ratios. As it 17 years old I'm not too fussed about it.

RE: Noise...?
Thanks everyone for comments and advice on this. Was busy so couldnt get on to the forum.
Just picked up the bike and apparently it was a worn front sprocket. Chain wasnt too bad but got whole thing done. The guy serviced the bike too and riding her home was great. She pulls like a freight train no noise now!!
The last owner had told me these had been done fairly recently but that must have been male cow excrement!
Cost me £270 in the end. Never mind,at least I now know what it was and that its fixed.
Next job is to get a new Scott Oiler as apparently mine was leaking everywhere. I'm also going to try and get a Baglux tank bag and get my rear swinging arm powder coated black as its got a small amount of surface rust on it.
Thanks again for advice and help!
