RE: looking for more power
Increase displacement piston kit (overheating has been reported with this option).
Increase sprocket size in the rear, it is better than decreasing the front, due to excessive chain wear.
Header system with jet kit and good carb sync.
Good tires and set up your suspension right.
Taking an advanced rider school course.
Loose some weight and don't have a tank full of gas when you go riding.
Or just get new friends that are beginners.[8D]

Take the advanced riding school of your choice and do circles around your buddies-even if you are on a 250 Rebel!!!
I'm no world class rider by any means, but I regularly spank many friends on CBR1000RRs, 51s and the like. If anything, the extra power of my bike is a huge distraction as I've always got the feelers out for traction in the twisties.
For what it's worth, I've got the Wiesco big bore kit in my 87 CBR1000F and it dyno'd with 115 at the wheel. No BS, I wouldn't have believed it myself if I didn't see the printout. I still have the stealthy quiet stock exhaust too. Beware of the temperature though. My poor bike just HATES the stop/go traffic during my commute. All of that power is a joke considering my build... at 6'6" and 275 pounds right out of the shower, I'm certainly no featherweight.
Nothing will make you faster than honing your skills at a riding school. Nothing.

Slower friends aren't really an option due to the fact that riding buddies that you know that you can count on no matter what are awfully hard to find.

RE: looking for more power
Two different bikes sports tourer against a race rep, but it can be down to the rider i find you have to keep your revs up and make the bike work.
I have no problems keeping up ok race rep lighter faster bike which has been said no good for long distance mine has all the power i need 135bhp standard and i've just had it MOT tested and the tester said the braking was at the top of the salter scale.
Which he's never seen before and the brakes are standard, so an advanced rider course and some trackdays needed my friend or tell your mates they'll have to wait for you to catch up!

Change your sprokets, go down one on the front and three up in the back. Make sure to oil your chain all the time as the shorter bend in the front will help the chain wear faster. Chain will remain 114 links. You will lose a little top speed, but you'll gain a lot of low end acceleration.
