Default ignition issue

When I turn the key on today, I got the normal response, the dash lights lit up, but when I hit the starter button, the lights shut off and I heard some type of pop under the seat. I switched the ignition off and on again and nothing. So I checked all of the fuses and all were ok. I thought my starter may be bad, but I should still be getting juice when I turn the ignition switch on, right? I'm not sure where to go from here.

Any Ideas?

Did you check the main fuse at the starter solenoid? If you don't have lights or anything with key on, you've probably popped it.

+1. Sounds like you popped the main. It's a 30A fuse... on it's own... next to the starter relay.

Yup checked it and it's fine. I waited a little while and turned the key in the on position and still nothing, but I left the key in the on position and all of a sudden I saw the dash lights light up. I'm thinking I have an exposed wire somewhere, but on the other hand When I'm riding it's fine I never loose "juice".
I plugged my battery into a charger and it was below 80%. It started fine then rode to work. Got home and just plugged it to the tender again and it showed it was below 80% again. So would/could it be just low battery?

If it's not one thing it's another.

I had a similiar problem and it was my ignition barrell. Left the bike for a few months and when i turned the key i got nothing. Wiggled the key a little and all the lights lit up. Soaked it in wd40 and it was fine until i sold it.
Charging problem could be a bad regulator rectifier. Not too expensive to replace and very easy job, its bolted to the left side of the sub frame.

Fixed the issue. Tightened the battery conections. The positive screw was loose. WOW I love easy fixes.
