Unhappy ignition mechanism crash?

hi ya'all

my ignition is having a problem.the bike starts well but when switched off, the key comes out of the ignition but the bikes engine is still running.i am therefore unable to switch it off.i have to use the kill switch and even then the dash board lights are still on.what is the problem?

Mechanism is worn, Doc. You may be able to fix it by having a new key cut, or you'll have to remove the ignition and take it to a good locksmith who can fix the leaves inside.

Shadow,i tried the key idea,did not work..i then took out the switch and took it to a locksmith who found a vertical connecter from the upper mechanism to the lower one was brocken and he could not fix it..what do u think?am thinking of buying a used switch from e-bay....

Sorry it didn't work Doc - maybe if you buy a replacement lock you can have the mechanism cut so your old key will work. Don't forget all the other locks on the bike run with the same key, and it's a pain to have to find the right one all the time.

thanks shadow..another question..will a 1994 ignition switch fit on a 1990 cbr1kF?

Yep, the later one should fit.
You'd be real lucky if you could find the whole set, Sam (fuel, ignition, and seat lock)
I've seen them come up as a set, but it's somewhat rare....

Something like this.

100% Guaranteed to fit ....... just checked my 1990 against my 1993 ....all good DOC
