They had it from 7:30am until 11:30 and charged for 2 hours so I figured it was fair enough...
I've heard nothing but good reports on these guys... I was dubious of what he said about K&N but I am also dubious of your argument too... so when in doubt, stock will do me fine

The dissolveing bit wasn't what the shop said, all he said was K&N's work brilliantly on EFI bikes but there is no gain, and likely a loss, on carby bikes.
The comment about dissolveing was by a friend whom I fit into the mythbusters category of "slightly possibly conceivealy... but not probable" with many of the things he tells me... he's old... (40 something) and I'm young (25) so unless I feel strongly about the comment, I listen to what he has to say and hold my tongue because I don't want to have pointless arguments. It's not what you know, it's how you use it...
I didn't mean to offend by doubting you... I'm quite happy with stock. I'm sure if K&N were worried about people putting their filters on carby bikes, they would say something about it. Since they don't, I tend to believe you and them and everyone else.
When the shop said they replaced the air fiter, the first thing I asked is why they didn't fit a K&N, his reason "carby" did not impress me but I figured he just didn't want to be honest and take the risk that I *required* a K&N filter be fitted and that he would then be the proud owner of a "near new stock paper filter"...
It's all good, I'm happy and that's all that matters.

I'm quite certain that they do not dissolve under fuel rich environments.. i've had them on my carbed Rx7's for years without a glitch, and have one on my hurricane.. I don't see how they wouldn't improve performance, but if you're happy, good! over the course of the life of the bike you probably won't change the air filter all that often anyhow, it's pretty clean air it gets unless you ride it in the dirt
