Another tire question
I’m wondering if anyone has experience with the Kenda KM1 tires in 160/60VR17 size on an 87 or 88 CBR 1000F?
I have been using the search function but it is not easy to find, from what I’m reading the 87,88’s has narrower tires then the later models?
Anyone see an issue? I can get them at a good price.
TIA

Your bike came with bias-ply tyres matched to those rims.
KM1 is modern radial tyre designed to work with wide rims (wider than bias-ply tyre of same width). The 160/60vr17 size needs 5.0” wide rim to work. Squeezing them onto narrow rims will cause all sorts of problems. The pinched pointy contact patch will cause faster wear. Sidewalls will be too curved and you’ll lose grip and slide easier.
Get proper size tyres for your rim-width. Or upgrade to wider rims. I put CBR600F2 rear wheel on my ‘86 VFR so I can use modern 17” radial tyres.
