Speedo not working 95/96 900cbr
Hi all . So after crashing the blade with a highside. I rebuilt it in 2001 repsol Honda colours when Rossi raced the best bike in the world lol .
anyway. I mot d the bike and I've not looked at it for a while because of work . It stood still for 14months
went to take it for a new mot . Speedo flickered and decided not to work
stripped it down
everything works all fuses good rpm rev tachometer works all electrical works
so removed the sprokect speed sensor
three wire version
black 12v dc
red switch live to cluster
green to earth
so tested it I had 12v at black span the sensor nothing at the red connection
ordered one ( second hand ) tried that one same result
sent it back for a refund
I hope this hasn't bored you all I like to be methodical
so my question is can this only be the sensor or has anyone come across some other issue which comes before this and throws you off the scent .

I have exactly the same problem, battery live and negative but nothing coming back from the hall sensor. Sensor changed but still the same.

This is not some 1950's jalopy! Modern vehicles uses digital electronics, not old analogue stuff. Sensor probably works fine. You have to spin wheel so trigger-teeth moves past sensor. Then analyse output signal with oscilloscope. Looks something like this. More pulses per second = higher speeds displayed. Zero pulses from stationary wheel = 0 mph:
Most likely broken wire between sensor and dash. Measure resistance of each wire end-to-end to verify it's not broken.

Thanks for your reply.
So far I've only tested the 3 wires from the entry to the main loom under the tank through to the body of the sensor. Tiny amount of resistance as you'd expect over a few feet of wiring with a plug in there. Test light shows no drop or breakage. No pulse from signal coming from the sensor.
Oddly there's no resistance between the live and the signal wire, when stationary or on rotation. I always thought that Hall sensors have resistance across the live in and pulse out. Maybe I have a bad sensor as suspected, and the donor is a crapper too. I'm gonna rig it up on the oscillascope after work one day to see what's going on.
