Sorry the little stud on the left of the spring i seated that in the middle

You need new spring. Both those arms should be straight and parallel about 4mm apart.

Ahh ok ,I’ll order one, and does the stud sit inside the two arms

Yes, stud sits exactly in between two arms of spring. When you shift one way, stud pushes one spring arm away from other. Its increased preload then pushes stud back to centre. When you shift other way, stud pushes other way. Other spring arm then pushes it back to centre position. At rest in that position, stud touches both spring arms.

I found this photo from manual. That pin is supposed to be in between shift-spring arms. I suspect that's why one of the arms is bent on yours.
