I've heard a couple different opinions on acceptable tire age, but I believe Dunlop recommends 5yrs max. (Although I've heard of some tracks not letting you run anything over 2yrs?)
I've had new sets that were near 2 years old, but never 7.
I would be contacting the seller for sure.

I would also try and contact the seller beforehand next time about how old the tires are that you're buying. Some will tell you up front so you don't have to worry.
I've had no issues with moto superstore. My last set of Qualifiers were current year, and the Pilot Road 2's I just got from them a couple months ago are coded to Sept/Oct. of 2009.

I'm sure as hell not gonna buy the latest brand/style that I know I don't want just so I know it's newly manufactured. If it's more than a year or two old off the shelf, I'm gonna bitch.

9lives,

Thanks for posting that. I knew some places held on to tires forever, but I didn't know tires were actually dated. Luckily, the tires I recently bought were manufactured at Dec. 09. I'll definitely be letting people know about this.

Thanks for the info. New guy here and reading around the site when I came across this. Made me go outside to check my tires.

Rear-1610 So if I understand this correctly that means it was made sometime around April of this year.

Front-0404 That means it was made 6 years ago in January of 04.

I just had the tires installed about a month ago, so should I go back and talk to them about doing a swap?

I'd be cautious riding around with that tire. Depending on where you bought the tires and had them installed, I'd make a stink. Especially if you're paying full price, they should be new tires. Considering we only have two tires to work with on our bikes, it's crucial that they are in great shape. It makes my blood boil that these people get away with this.

yep, listen to this. I still haven't received a refund for the tires I sent back. Their tech guys are trying to fix the system and until then they can't refund any orders yet. cheapcycleparts.com! awesome.
