Cool Taming the Dragon this weekend, anyone got some tips/advice.

I am taking a trip to the TN/NC boarder and rideing the infamous Tail of the Dragon or Deals Gap as some know it. Just wondering if any of you out there have been there or not? Also, what are someof the things you did, places you stayed? My Dad and I are stopping at the Moonshine Distillery as well.

Ride to have fun, not to try knee drag...cause if you've never been there, the Dragon can bite...hard. There's about every kind of twisty you can imagine. Just take it easy & enjoy the ride.

Stay within your comfort zone and don't get into competitions - watchout for
riders with lesser experience than yourself .......they can cause the problems without your
having to do a damned thing.

Your first few runs ....go when it's busy ......it will actually run slower

early runs ..... are when the "cranking" riders are out there

The cops are definitely out there so watch out. Take is slow! The dragon will bite you back really quick. The south has soo much good riding. There are a lot of very good roads around the dragon that are less crowded as well. Have fun, it's a great time!

ok to answer your question, I've been to Tail of the Dragon. Stayed at a hotel in Knoxville, TN. Can't recall the name but there are plenty in the Knoxville area that are also close to route 129 which will lead right into the main area of Deal's Gap aka "Tail of the Dragon".

Check out the Motorcycle Resort right in the Dragon with also hosts the "Tree of Shame" which you don't want to be a part of lol.

Check out the following roads/areas: Cherohala Skyway, Smoky Mountains, FootHills Parkway, Blue Ridge Parkway, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, Fontana Dam and of course " the Dragon-11 miles of 311 raw twisties".

Hands down, Tail of the Dragon was one of the best rides I've ever done.

Although I didn't drive down. I flew there and logged 1000 miles on a rented motorcycle . You can rent just about anything down there now.

In my opinion, "Riderz Paradise"..

I'll be there oct 10th. My plan is to go to Knoxville from NOVA, then hit the dragon and work my way back north via the blue ridge parkway.

RDub, ya I made the trip the weekend of Aug 6th. It was a good trip. The actual Dragon was a pretty nice road. Im glad I road the Dragon but if I went down again I would probably ride different roads. The dragon is so curvy you have to keep your eyes on it at all times. I was hoping to see some scenery or something but once you enter the Dragon you have to pay attention to the road and only the road. Like I said I am glad I did it and I would definitly say it is for those sportbike riders who like pushing their luck. We stayed in a hotel in Gattlinburg and rode up and down the strip. We also visited Cliffmans Dome (the highest point around) and the Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Had a blast, wish I had more then a weekend to be down there though. If you go let me know how it is! (ps. watch out for cops on the Dragon)

Heres a video I took with my FlipVideo. Took us 27 minutes to ride the whole thing one way. Of course we took it slow the first time.
