Question...
^^ Either that or a new non-black textile jacket will be my next gear purchase.
But to the OP, although you've probably gone and bought something already. I'm gonna say that you shouldn't waste your money on the ankle-high boots. I have a pair of the Joe Rocket umm.. prostreets? Whichever low-boot they offer. I've gone down millions of times in both my Joe Rocket "riding boots" as well as my DC riding sneakers and the protection I really needed was more ankle support and shin protection. Since my falls I've learned my lessons and now I barrel roll instead of going down with the bike whenever I crash or go down.
As for a serious suggestion... I decided to buy a pair of Sidi Vertigos which I will recommend to my death for a moderate somewhat comfy boot. They kind of squeak during break in, but they're really comfy and Sidi is pretty much an industry standard.
