Default Jacket question

Hey guys, This is my first bike, and I have heard alot of horror stories, so I want to get the right gear. I am looking at picking up an alpinstars leather jacket off E-bay (cause i dont have any money so Eby is the way to go) and I'm not sure what size i should get. I'm a pretty skinny guy. I wear a medium in all my teeshirts, and can fit into smalls (they are tight). Could anyone make a suggestion? or tell me how to measure what th4 40,42,46,etc... is. thanks guys.

I have learned from a friend that havign the right gear wont do u any good if it doesnt fit right. he had a jacket slide up on him when he crashed (bad road rash)

Not sure on sizes, but i will say isdon'tjust get a jacket, you need gloves, boots and decent pants as well. I had a major off about 11 months ago, and the scar tissue is still extremely painful at times. It's better that than the "i told you so" stories, ride safe, sorry i couldn't help you on sizes.

It all depends on your height. The numbers 42, 44, 46 refer to your chest size, so measured at the widest part under your arms. I'm a 44-46 but also 6'3", so I had to go will tall sizing. I found the FirstGear Hammer and Joe Rocket Sonic 2 (which is what I wound up buying) in talls from newenough.com. Definitely go with leather, mesh will melt to you in a bad crash. Agreed with bishop, definitely invest in a good helmet, pants, boots, gloves, back protector.... not just the jacket. How much is your safety really worth?
