Default Jacket question

I just bought an Alpinestars SMK leather jacket. and since in the past I have never really ridden protected properly my question is on proper fit.. and not to mention I was able to get it for 289.00 new!!
I bought a 54/44 jacket size, it is real snug in the sleeves and shoulders , best way I can describe is the old movie tommy boy.. " fat man in a little coat"
although i am not fat hell I am 160 and 5'10"
I have tried one size larger and it feels sloppy, how snug should they be for proper protection?? if I go with the 56/46 it is more comfy but I can easily rotate the elbow armor off to the side and kinda think that I dont want that to happen if I go down..

but I must say the jacket is kinda sexy!!!

You got a good deal on that jacket As far as how it should fit, that's a personal decision. The safest fit would be snug as you described. But that might not be comfortable on a long haul and eventually could cause you to leave it at the house when riding ... and that would be bad cause anything between your skin and the pavement is better than nothing.

Sounds like the right fit. If it's leather it'll stretch out. Should be good unless it's crasy tight.

yup, I like my leather gear to be tight, uncomfortably tight when brand new. where it for a couple hundred miles, and it will fit like a glove

What he said.

The idea is that you want it to stay where it is if you hit the ground, not bunch up and leave something exposed. To do that it has to be somewhat snug.

My MotoGP jacket was damn tight at first but is not at all uncomfortable now. If it's the right fit the leather will stretch to fit your shape, more or less, as you wear it. Now if it's squeezing you so tight that your hands are going numb then you might need to reconsider.
