cold weather riding tip!
So I have begun riding for 2011 but it is still pretty cold here and I was trying out different combination's of clothing to see which was the warmest. So far I found my winner.
Thermal, t shirt over the thermal and then a ccm hockey under shirt and my jacket over that.
This combination keeps me so warm and is so comfortable because I don't have a bulky hoody underneath. The best thing of all you can stay warm for about $15!
I also started riding with dickies work jeans. The material is much more durable than regular jeans. These with long johns and the above will keep you plenty toasty in about 40 degrees!

As a long-time winter bicyclist I know that layering works better than some big, bulky single garment. It wicks away sweat more efficiently and you can remove a layer or two if the temp warms up. Thermal long johns are great as a base layer when it is really cold.
Today's ride in was 30*F. Not cold enough for the long johns but I had my winter ski gloves on, among other things.

Gump, you try putting the hockey undershirt under the thermal?
I've had good luck with an under armor shirt, long sleeve T, hoodie and then my Teknic jacket with the liner in it. It was actually too warm and I had to unzip the top a bit. That was in 28deg last year.
But ya...coming from growing up in Pittsburgh my whole life I can attest to the wonderment of layering!

i just put few layers of shirts on and than a hoodie and a leather jacket with liner.
sweat pants tucked into sucks and jeans on top. my jacket is open at the top so i also use a scarf on my neck and leather winter gloves.
besides cracking my visor every light or stop sign due to fogging up. im toasty. i was riding in 28*F today for about hour and a half.
spotted some ice on the road in the park and decided its time to go home.

I used to do that, too. My Shoei RF-1000 would fog just about anytime I was riding at low to moderate speeds and the air temp was less than 50*F. Then I installed a Fog City shield insert and now I cannot even make it fog if I try, no matter what the temp is.
