I generally lean over to one side or lift slightly so the air escapes quickly. Never had a passenger with me though or I'd probably hold it in until we both got off the bike.

The worst to me is on a two lane road at 55 speed limit when the truck passes you going in the opposite direction. The wind blast from that scares the hell out of me.
Perhaps I have a differing opinion because my bike is like 100lbs heavier than the newer ones and I'm like 100lbs heavier than many of you guys. I may not get blown around with the side winds like some.

RE: wind blasts??
^^ i agree and maintain my initial position that don't do anything...don't try and fight the bike...the bike wants to run true...the comments suggesting that wind affects you more than the bike is true....only if you are in gail force winds, the bike shouldn't be moving...i ride on the highway all the time...actually a LOT of the time..and i am always by semis or in crappy wind...gotta love chicago...
now i have gotten used to it but it still freaks me out a bit...but i just tuck a little more and ride normal...if you try to compensate, i would bet you would be making the bike more unstable than it actually felt....best thing to do in terms of semis and the like is just to accelerate past...i usually slow up until it's open and i can twist open throttle and scoot past real fast...where it's just windy, i just tuck a little more and ride like normal....
