Default What do you do if someone's sitting on your bike?

This is a discussion from another forum. I figured I'd get another perspective.

I feel I don't have to "politely ask" you to remove yourself from my property. I also feel people don't understand the seriousness of sitting on someone's bike. To me its the same as climbing behind the wheel of a stranger's car. Which in some states falls into the areas for self defense, lethal force and justifiable homicide depending on how they react.

Aside from being rude. Aside from the person potentially dropping my bike. Simply put, I don't know them nor why they're there. They could be innocently trying the feel of my bike. Or not so innocently prepping to break the bar lock & pop the ignition. And I really don't understand the need to be polite about telling you to get the **** off my bike.

Neither do I . Best he would get is a GTFOMB, probably followed by a smack to the ear.
It's a NO No here - people know better. You ASK a man if you want to sit on his bike......
It's viewed the same way as groping a man's wife, or similar. Not on at all...
Hell, even if you want to sit on a bike in a bike shop or showroom, you ASK FIRST.

can you innocently get the feel of his wife? i got no problem with someone asking "hey man can i sit on here to see how comfy it is" but don't let me show up and you're just on it already. I grew up in Myrtle Beach (not that im saying it was rough or somethin so ha ha) and we had this problem at the Blvd all the time and it usually meant fight time.

This is one of the reasons I just bought an alarm for my bike. A good friend of mine texted me one morning saying my bike is really comfy. I was really confused because my bike is at home 100 miles away and not at my school. I told him, 1. you better not be on my bike 2. my bike isn't at school. He was sitting on some stranger's bike. I would have been plenty pissed if he was sitting on mine without my permission. But the thought of him sitting on a bike not knowing if it was mine or not. I bought the alarm with a tilt sensor that day.

I have a Scorpio i900 with a tilt, shock and perimeter sensor. If they get within 2 ft of the "zone" it warns them to get back. If they don't or if they come closer the full alarm triggers and alerts my pager.

Anyway, I can't even imagine anyone having the gonads to just hop on my bike without asking me first.
