Tennessee sludge spill runs over homes, water
So, they have this *sludge* that is a byproduct of burning coal for power, and the have enough to cover 80 acres (500 MILLION gallons). That's an area the size of 20 aircraft carrier flight decks, that's BIG!
Were they planning on just leaving it there? Seems alike a hell of a lot of byproduct to me, I seem to remember TVA claiming that they were a *clean coal* company?
A wall holding back 80 acres of sludge from a coal plant in central Tennessee broke this week, spilling more than 500 million gallons of waste into the surrounding area.
The sludge, a byproduct of ash from coal combustion, was contained at a retention site at the Tennessee Valley Authority's power plant in Kingston, about 40 miles east of Knoxville, agency officials said,
The retention wall breached early Monday, sending the sludge downhill and damaging 15 homes. All the residents were evacuated, and three homes were deemed uninhabitable, a TVA spokesman told CNN.
TVA spokesman Gil Francis told CNN that up to 400 acres of land had been coated by the sludge, a bigger area than the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Mmm, dont yall just think tennessee looks beautiful? Makes me proud to live here
Seriously though.. it damaged many homes and a few were deemed uninhabitable according to the article. Ok.. so your house is fine but the 600 acres surrounding it is in deep ****... no, literally. Who would want to live out there after that happened? I think they should offer to pay all of the people affected as if their houses had been completely destroyed.
