Any sportsbike is still a sportsbike. It won't make a difference if he really can't handle it.

A 250 can go up to 200km/h, a 600 can do 260km/h and a 14... what 300?? Whats the difference?

If its a good deal... go for it. Be confident and train your buddy. Ask him to get the feeling with your bike for a couple of times.

The difference is being able to hit 150mph in 9 seconds from a dead stop

A buddy of mine bought a new busa 4 months ago as his 1st bike.. We told him of the power and so on... He kept it cool and confident and so far he is doin good.... So its not in the bike... its in the rider.

^ Its not the rider, or maturity. Maybe he is handling it, but his learning curve is gonna be so slow it will take him forever to learn on a busa what he could have learned in months on a small bike.

9 out ten sinerios end up badly. Your friend is a rarity n very very lucky. Starting out on bikes intended for experienced riders is just plain stupid.

Average weight of a 250cc motorcycle: 350lbs

Average weight of a 600cc sportbike: 405lbs

Average wait in the hospital ER when a 600lb ZX-14 falls over and crushes your tibia: priceless

At the end of the radio ads around here for the Suzuki dealerships, the announcer says in a fast, fine print voice, "GSX-R1000 and Hayabusa are for EXPERIENCED riders only." I would assume the Kawasaki ZX14R would fall under the same catagory...

Keep the 14K and buy a smaller bike to learn on with the cash. Allow him to wash and wax the 14K and smell it occasionally...
