Ninja ZX-14 for first bike?
NOOOOOOOOOOO! I have a customer in Florida who went straight from an EX250 to a ZX1400. So far this year he has crashed it 3 times, average repair bill is $2K for parts alone. He's in his 20s and every crash has been "not my fault!" It's purely a matter of time until it all goes horribly wrong. It's hard enough to handle the 1400 if you know what your'e doing, it is NOT for beginners!!! By all means, trade but sell it on and get a smaller bike.
no no no no no no, and no. seriously. no.
lots of riders here often argue the "is 600 too big for a first bike?" but I don't think you'll find one person that says a 1400 is appropriate as a first bike. It's a death wish. And if you really want to scare him, do some poking around the net of how graphic motorcycle wrecks really are (even though most of them are of 600's...)
do the trade, sell the bike, save a life.

^ the taco bell guy should make him think twice before getting on a bike and doing something stupid.
Personally, I wouldn't get rid of a 240... the things are effin' nice (someday I'll own one if I can find one without the drift tax)
