Leading The Way

RE: Leading The Way
i know the largest group i have been on is 7 riders. normally its just me and the wife. next largest group was 4 of us...I have lead the 4 person and 7 person group till we got where we were going, then Joe (a friend) would lead once we got to the road..in the 4 person i was the wingman after i passed Alex(txridder-used to be on here alot) but everyone was encouraged to ride at their own pace. in the 7 person ride i was 4th mainly b/c i didnt trust me sprocket and chain and i wanted to keep an eye on my wife and we had a new rider with us, she was learning to ride on a 500 ninja and i wanted to keep them in sight incase something happened. i tried to ride last and be the sweep but i couldnt go that slow so i left it to my wife to watch out for the other 2 girls but i was right in front of her if anything happened and i kept a close eye on my mirror. I liked riding in the middle and i trusted Joe so i didnt mind being wingman either but i HATED being the leader having to make sure everyone would make it throught he redlights, 4 ways without getting seperated by traffic, etc

Not me - I'm a big fan of two person rides! but that's just because I know exactly what is happening all the time. When it's just us I ride forward and to the inside of the lane and txn_driver picks up the rear outside of the lane... Except when I'm on the road by myself any other format and I start to pay to much attention to exeryone else than my riding. Thats just my inexperience though and will probably get better as I do it more often.

Closest thing to a group ride i've found besides cruiser meet ups is a few of us meet at the start and turn around on the twisties.. everyone goes at their own pace though, no pack or formations once we get there. Usually though theres only 3 of us and the other 2 guys are on 600's with less experience then me so i 'lead'. There isn't a big streetbike scene here.
The few bigger 'cruises' that i went on this summer were lead by slow harleys lol. Stop lights broke the group up a lot but everyone knew the route. A cruise like this i would not want to lead for numberous reasons. I went on a cruise that had a police escort, that's the way to go in town.
I passed a group ride one time with a buddy on a 636. We were haulin down a long straight, 2 lanes going our way. Passed close to 50 harleys all riding in stagger behind each other. Glad i dont ride a harley.
