Funky Ebay purchase...
Today, I purchased a set of books and a video about cigars (I love 'em). The seller did not post the shipping cost, so I emailed him to find out how much he wanted after I won the auction. This is the response I got:
Why did you make a payment on a product that was clearly described as
not being shipped to
anywhere other than the Continental United Sates. I contacted you and
told you this and my
concerns. You didn't respond to my email but instead went ahead and
paid for it.
You contacted me immediately after auction and asked me about shipping
to which I responded
with my concerns. I advise you to withdraw your payment from Paypal and
not to bid on items
that are designated as U.S. only. I repeat I will not ship to an item
that PAYPAL as designated
as an unconfirmed address nor will I ship out of country.
Either withdraw payment or I will contact ebay which will effect your
account standing. What's
it going to be?
Obviously, I live in the Continental United States, so I responded:
I live in Oregon...which is clearly in the United States of America (continental, even). My address is********* Lane Grants Pass, Oregon, 97527. I am not sure about my address being "unconfirmed", so maybe I need to do something to change that status. I will be happy to cancel my purchase of your product. In fact, I do notwant to buy from you in any way, shape, or form. Sorry I paid you too quickly (how annoying). I will not leave any negative feedback for you, and I will get ahold of Ebay and Paypal at my earliest convenience tommorow (Pacific Standard time), and cancel my purchase. I will be happy to buy the items you have for sale at full price from anywhere else. I love cigars, and also love learning about them. Sorry I inconvenienced you.
As it turns out, someone from Indonesia has hacked my Ebay and Paypal account. Fortunately, there was no loss of money or identity. I guess my password was too easy. Should I explain what happened to the seller, or should I play the tough guy?

First off. Dont ever give your address out. Tons of weirdos on ebay. I know it shows up if you're using paypal but they dont need to know that's where you live.
Just tell them what happend. I would think ebay would send you an email confirming that your account was hacked and able to track everything that your account has done.
You REALLY need to let paypal know. Most banks dont even think twice about a paypal payment from someones account. You're account could be drained and no one would know.
