Default Funky Noise

Hi,

Whenever I am riding next to a carpool wall, another car or a curb even, the sound from under the bike obviously is easier to hear. My bike has about 800 miles on it. I have been hearing a metalic noise coming from the drivetrain I think that occurs when I have the throttle open. It does not occur when I let the throttle off. I do not hear it unless there is a solid object next to me. It almost sounds like it may be coming from the chain.

I have had the service shop check it and they say it is normal and the chain has the right amount of play. But it is damn annoying. It is a constant "ching ching ching ching" sound. When you are doing 90 on the freeway and hear that sound against the carpool wall, it does not give you the feeling of safe.

Is this normal. Has anyone else heard this sound. Just want to know if I have a problem.

Are you sure that it is not the exhaust ticking?? I found that my exhaust header bolts loosened up a touch from the motor breaking in, just had to retorque them...sounded like a tapping noise, and yes the chain does make some noise. You can hear everything better as it echo's off the center divider since the chain is on that side of the bike

I'm thinking it's exhaust noise also. My chain makes more of a whirring sound at speed.

It is definately not the exhaust. Does the chain sound you hear only sound while on the throttle? Can you hear the chain sound over the exhaust even at high speeds when next to a wall?

Next to a wall or in a tunnel all I hear is exhaust -- the 2Bros is rather loud at 7K. I can hear the chain when out in the open and it's more of a whirring sound and doesn't change due to throttle.

Try this: on a deserted street or empty parking lot run it up to 30-40mph, pull in the clutch and hit the engine kill. Ride it out til it stops and listen to see if the sound changes as the speed decreases. Do a second run only this time leave the clutch engaged and see if the sound is different.

The exhaust sound (ticking) I am referring to is not gonna be heard from the rear(muffler) but from the motor, along the front of the cylinder head

You can hear exhaust ticks from the muffler also when in a confined space or sometimes next to a wall. That's why I suggested he turn off the motor and coast to see if it truly is the chain. My best guess is exhaust noise echoing back at him.

Yeah, that ticking is completely normal. happened on my 04 and happens on my 05. My buddy with a 954 also hears it from time to time. Good old Honda engineering.
